1.1 Privacy Principles
Artelliq has two fundamental principles when it comes to our users’ privacy:
We don’t sell your data to anyone else.
We only store the data that our product, BEAM needs to function as a secure and stable contacts syncing application.
1.2 Terms of Service
2.1 What personal data do we collect
2.1.1 Phone number
BEAM uses phone numbers as unique identifiers so that it is easy for you to login into the system. We ask your permission before syncing your contacts. But the syncing contacts doesn’t mean we are storing the contacts in our servers. We pass your contacts through what we call a pipe, which is used to compare the phone numbers of the users who are already using BEAM.
Every time you open the app, your contacts are passed through the pipe to check if someone has joined BEAM or updated their contact details on BEAM. Once it verifies a contact’s presence on BEAM, it deletes the contact from the pipe, giving way for new contacts to be checked.
We do not store your contacts’ details on the server. We store the phone numbers of people using BEAM to act as a unique identifier for the user.
2.2 How do we use that data
Except for calculating the total numbers of users using BEAM, we do not use your data for any other purpose. Neither do we share it with any of the advertisers or third-parties.
3.1 Storing data
If you signed up for BEAM from the UK or the EEA, your data is stored in data centers in the Netherlands. These data centers are provided by third-party providers where Artelliq hires dedicated servers. However, the servers and networks that sit inside these data centers and on which your personal data is stored are owned by Artelliq. As such, we do not share your personal data with such data centers. All data is stored heavily encrypted so that local Artelliq’s engineers or physical intruders cannot get access.
3.2 On-device encryption
All the data that you see in BEAM are stored and processed on your device, with encryption. Right from the contacts syncing to the updates that you make to your contacts, everything is stored on your device.
All the contact’s details like first-name, middle-name, last-name, emails and everything else is stored in the encrypted format which can be decrypted only by the contact’s owner and the people who they share it with.
In the key generation stage, the RSA client has the ability to generate two sets of key, the public key and the private key.
The private key is held only by the user’s client (the BEAM app in our case) and it is not stored in the application server. A copy of the private key is stored in the HSM which is not possible to be accessed by anything other than the application server itself.
3.3 Matching contacts
The contacts are shared only with the people they are friends with. Even the shared data is sent in the encrypted method. Before sharing the data, the contacts share their public keys to each other and the data is encrypted using each other’s public key and finally shared with them.
4.1 Our Services
BEAM is a cloud based application, where only your phone number is shared with the server for unique identification.
4.2 No Ads
Unlike other services, we don’t use your data for ad targeting or other commercial purposes. BEAM only stores the information it needs to function as a secure and feature-rich cloud service.
4.3 Where is my data processed?
On your device. Private keys are stored in your mobile as well as in the HSM. The private keys in the mobile is deleted once the authentication expires or the user logs out of the application.
No one other than BEAM will have access to your personal data. We do not have an API that exposes your data to other third-parties.
If you would like to delete your account with BEAM, you can do this by emailing us at email@example.com. Deleting your account removes all your phone numbers and every other piece of data you store in the BEAM’s cloud. This action cannot be undone.
If you have any questions about privacy and our data policies, please contact our support at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will get back to you as soon as we can.
